Born 49 years ago, Marco is curious and passionate about life in every sense. With determination, he pursued his dream of singing. After years of study at the Conservatory and the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, he launched a career as an opera singer, performing on stages around the world from China to the US, Oman to Japan.
In the midst of this vibrant career, multiple sclerosis entered his life. Everything changed if only for a moment. He wrote Symptoms of Happiness, a book that shares how a professional opera singer continues to follow his dreams despite a chronic, degenerative neurological condition. He challenged himself, changed many aspects of his life but never gave up on his goals.
After publishing the book, he married Giulia, who also lives with MS and competes with Italy’s Sitting Volleyball team. Together, they have a son, Andrea, and dedicate part of their lives to sharing their story convinced that strength can be found even in weakness, and that it’s possible to live the life you want.
Marco splits his time between directing the Mascagni Festival, working as an opera director and theatrical reader, teaching (vocal masterclasses and performance seminars), and writing a column for the Avvenire newspaper.
